What We Do

Arterra Bizimodu is a co-living project born in Spring 2014 in the village of Artieda, Navarra.

With the energy of almost fifty people, and with the motto that “another world is not only possible, but necessary”, Arterra Bizimodu is taking its first steps as an ecovillage.

In its first phase, the project has developed from co-living in a former rural hotel, with the aim of working towards self-sufficiency, to investigating alternative economies which reflect the balance between the personal and the collective, and deploying the creativity and talents of each and every person that joins the project, in the belief that the journey is easier together.

Arterra Bizimodu, therefore, presents itself as another response to the prevailing crisis. We are already self-organised, supporting the development of a range of entrepreneurial activities, workshops, courses, gardens, soaps, music, co-ops…

We also have 8000m2 of multi-use spaces: apartments, two racketball courts, squash courts, and a swimming pool, all of which need fresh energy to bring back into everyday use.

We try to use simple, family economies, through the synergy of each project and the use of a social currency, “terrones”, and to live and recreate a culture of abundance, learning from the earth and her generous diversity.

We are also an experiment in Sociocracy, exploring alternative means of self-governance and collective organisation. Sociocracy is an innovative model of self-governance which seeks to align the sharing of power with organisational efficiency.

We organise ourselves in Circles that manage the distinct areas of communal life, and meet all together once a month for a check-in to share how we’re doing.

We explore structures that enable us to welcome a growing group to the project, and aspire to welcome new families and individuals with the desire to experiment and to develop their talents.

We aspire to the dream of creating a space of Training for Transition, where we can provide the tools for the new world we know is possible.
